I haven't blogged consistently since the tender age of fourteen, so I may be a bit rusty on blog protocol. I think introductions are part of the deal, though. My name is Alissa Smith, and I'm an English Education major at The University of Montana. I've wanted to teach high school English since before I even entered high school, and I'm so excited that I'm so far along my journey to achieving that goal. I'm technically a junior now, and will be a senior (aah!) come fall. Plans after college are a little hazy, but I think I may take two years off to teach English in Japan. That culture has always been a huge interest of mine, and gosh, it'd be really really cool.I'm planning on someday returning to college to get my masters in either literature or education. My highest dreams include getting a PhD in science fiction and publishing a novel, but I'm focusing on my immediate future right now.
As for this particular class, I would love to find multiple ways to use technology in my classroom effectively. I know that not everyone (especially high school students) find classic literature as riveting as I do, so programs and techniques that could make learning more interesting and interactive would be invaluable.
I cannot express how important it is to me that my future students enjoy (or at least pay attention to) my class. I could use a lot of help, though. :)
